ICYMI: Denver Post Endorses Manny Rutinel for Congress in CO-08

Denver Post Slams Evans for Always Siding with Trump “Coloradans deserve more from their members of Congress”

THORNTON, CO – Today, the Denver Post Editorial Board endorsed Manny Rutinel, Democratic nominee for Colorado's 8th Congressional District, for U.S. House of Representatives.

The Board cited Rutinel’s work in the state legislature expanding the family affordability tax credits and breaking with his party to protect Colorado farmers and ranchers. The Board also applauded Rutinel for calling for an end to Donald Trump’s reckless war in Iran that Gabe Evans continues to back and the corrupt, chaotic tariffs raising costs on all everyday items that Evans 100% supports.

In case you missed it “The Denver Post Editorial Board is endorsing Manny Rutinel for the 8th Congressional District.”:

  • “Rutinel has proven himself to be an effective lawmaker at the Colorado General Assembly, and voters should send him to Congress to fight for Coloradans. His example is the groundwork he helped lay in 2024 to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit when the state’s revenue allows under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights.”

  • “‘Because we passed that bill alongside the family affordability child tax credit, that I cosponsored, we cut child poverty by 40% overnight in Colorado. We just decided to do it, and we did it,’ Rutinel said. ‘I think that’s the kind of leadership we need in Congress right now. Folks who understand the struggles of working people deep in their bones and who have a track record of fighting for them.’”

  • “Evans didn’t just support the One Big Beautiful Bill; he also supports the vast majority of President Donald Trump’s agenda. We have not seen him make a single tradeoff vote that hasn’t been in lockstep with his party.”

  • “Rutinel gave us examples of two bills he supported in Colorado that Democrats wanted to squash – the right to repair for farmers and a ban on foreign ownership of farmland. He talks about working in a bipartisan fashion to create an economy that works for everyone, with safety nets in place to protect those who fall on down times.”

  • “‘A huge part of this race is very personal for me. I’m the son of a working mom – the most kind, generous, hardworking person I’ve ever met. But we still struggled,’ Rutinel said, who worked odd jobs to help his mother when he was a teen. ‘They are literally taking food out of the mouths of children and taking healthcare from babies, and I just think that’s not right.’”

  • “Rutinel said he would vote for the War Powers Resolution stopping a war that has no end in sight.”

  • “Rutinel said that ‘stopping these chaotic and corrupt tariff policies’ would be one of his top priorities.”

  • “Evans has also done nothing to prevent Trump’s deportation of hundreds of thousands of people, most of whom have no criminal record and many of whom actually had a legal status similar to the one Evans said he supports – asylum-based work permits, deferred action or temporary protected status. Evans insisted that no changes were needed to how ICE is operating under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.”

  • “Rutinel says he supports reforming ICE to stop its frequent violations of laws that grant everyone in America, whether they are here legally or illegally, a right to due process.”

  • “Coloradans deserve more from their members of Congress, particularly one from a district that is politically divided. The representative in this district must reflect a community that is neither 100% Republican nor 100% Democratic. It needs a representative willing to be a swing voter on issues that matter.”
